Roberto Pedreira, il curatore del sito Global Training Report e
dell'omonima casa editrice, è anche l'autore di un bel tomo di oltre 400
pagine in cui racconta la vera storia del Jiu-Jitsu in Brasile. Il
primo volume copre gli anni dal 1856 al 1949 e al suo interno ci
sono rivelazioni nuove che gettano nuova luce sui veri fatti storici.
Questa è un breve estratto tratto da una recensione del libro fatta sul forum Sherdog: "Carlos
Gracie non ha mai veramente studiato sotto Maeda. E' possibile che
abbia preso 1 o 2 lezioni private da Maeda, ma questo è tutto. Ha
studiato per un paio di mesi sotto Jacyntho Ferro, poi ha studiato per
2-3 anni sotto Donato Pires dos Reis, che a quanto pare era l'unica
persona che Maeda avesse autorizzato ad insegnare. Fu da Donato Pires
che i Gracies impararono non da Maeda. Pires gestiva l'accademia che
Maeda aveva aperto e che poi gli aveva lasciato. Poi, a quanto pare, un
giorno che Pires era fuori città per lavoro, Carlos e i suoi fratelli
si impadronirono della scuola poi lo aggredirono per la via e
rinominarono l'accademia di Pires Accademia Gracie."
Roberto Pedreira, the curator of the site Global Training Report is also the author of a beautiful tome of over 400 pages that tell us about the true story of Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil. The first volume covering the years 1856-1949, and inside there are new revelations that shed new light on the true historical facts.
This is a quick excerpt based on a book review made by a Sherdog forum user: "Carlos Gracie never really studied under Maeda. It's possible he took 1 or 2 private lessons from Maeda but that's it. He studied for a couple of months under Jacyntho Ferro, then he studied for 2-3 years under Donato Pires dos Reis, who apparently was the only person Maeda ever authorized to teach. It was Donato Pires whom the Gracies learned from not Maeda. Pires ran the academy that Maeda established and then left. Then apparently when Pires was out of town on business once, Carlos and his brothers essentially hijacked the school. When he returned, they kicked him out and renamed Pires's academy to the Gracie Academy."
