Aprire la guardia col gomito. Funziona? - Open the guard with elbow. Does it work or not?

Aprire la guardia facendo pressione col gomito. Funziona?

                            ----------------------------------

Open the guard with elbow pressure. Does it work or not? A polish black belt realize a video tutorial to show us that it works and said:" I use it since I was white belt both in academy and competition. Well executed works on everyone from white to black belt".

I personalliy never use this open guard technique,  so I asked to master Roberto Atalla to know his thoughts about it.

MaxbjjI never use this open guard technique, this polish black belt argue the contrary what do you think?

Roberto Atalla - I like to stand up always to open guards but in case the opponent is really good with sweeps, and not so much with subs from guard, staying on knees is an option but many times elbow is not enough so is better to push the inside of the knee with hand, keeping arm very close to the body.

Maxbjj - Using the elbow firmly planted to the thigh is not very gentle, specially with sparring partner in the gym, but is it effective like the polish guy said? When I try it usually my adversary easly unbalanced me, but using the entire body, like he  underline, could be useful?

Roberto Atalla  - Is not gentle it opens guards though, unless the guy on bottom is resilient and you expose yourself, I prefer using the hand.

Maxbjj - Yes I know It is more pain based instead with the hand is more lever based.

Roberto Atalla - Exactly and less risky against triangles from long legged guys I mean using the hand is less risky.

Maxbjj -   Yes, I mean thank you for your advices.

Roberto Atalla -  Welcome, this is my view, what worked for me in those years.
