Vanessa English, cintura nera di Brazilian Jiu Jitsu della Gracie Barra  ha scritto sulla sua pagina Facebook: "Sono felice di aver preso la decisione di interrompere la mia partecipazione ai tornei IBJJF fino a quando non verranno apportate modifiche. Un'organizzazione non professionale, avida e ingiusta.

Ho trascorso il 2017 principalmente focalizzata sulle competizioni UAEJJF ed è stato fantastico. Mi sono sentita accudita, ho ricevuto premi in denaro sul podio, sono state realizzate riprese straordinarie e professionali dei miei combattimenti, aree di riscaldamento organizzate tenute in luoghi fantastici. Il peso il giorno prima, che (entro limiti ragionevoli) è più salutare per gli atleti e in teoria potrebbe portare a prestazioni migliori. L'essermi focalizzata quest'anno nel 2018 ai tornei IBJJF racconta una storia diversa. Abbonamenti costosi e quote d'iscrizione senza premio nel "PIÙ GRANDE TORNEO DI BJJ PRESTIGIOSO" del mondo??

Ammassati, dopo il peso, in un recito fatto di transenne di plastica e  lasciati ad aspettare il proprio turno  seduti su un pavimento appiccicoso. Qui a proposito, ai campionati del mondo, prima della mia semifinale un  coordinatore mi ha fatto cadere il suo telefono cellulare in testa. Durante questa lotta la mia avversaria si è fatta una bella chiacchierata con l'arbitro per tutto il tempo senza essere penalizzato. A proposito, l'esperienza sul podio ai Campionati IBJJF nella divisione black belt è, al di là di tutto, insignificante. Però almeno ho ricevuto la mia maglietta  👍.

E' incredibile come ancora così tante persone complessivamente concordino che i tornei IBJJF sono i più prestigiosi. Così facendo stanno permettendo un comportamento che, a mio avviso, svantaggia gli atleti e la comunità di BJJ. Quando tutto questo avrà termine? "

Questa è la posizone di Vanessa. Ci sono atleti che si trovano benissimo con la IBJJF che sono contenti di pagare tutte le quote che la federazione richiede e che trovano le competizioni dalla federazione di Carlos Gracie jr. ottimamente organizzate.

From January 2019 BJJ practitioners of all belt levels from white to black belt will need to pay a yearly fee of 40$ for a membership card which will allow them to compete in IBJJF tournaments lead by Carlson Gracie Jr.  Gracia Barra's founder.

Vanessa English, Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt  wrote on her Facebook page: “Glad to have made the decision to cease my participation in IBJJF tournaments until changes are made. An unprofessional, greedy and unfair organisation.

I spent 2017 mainly focused on UAEJJF competitions and it was great. I felt looked after, I received prize money on the podium, there was amazing, professional footage of my fights, organised warmup areas all held in brilliant venues. Day before weigh-in’s, which (within reason) is healthier for the athletes and in theory could result in better performances.
This years 2018’s focus on IBJJF tournaments tells a different story. Expensive membership and entry fees with no prize money at ‘THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS BJJ TOURNAMENT’ in the world??

Herded into the ‘bullpen’ (some plastic fencing) after your weigh-in where you are left to sit on the sticky floor ready for your fight. Here by the way, at the world championships, I got a mobile phone dropped on my head by one of the mat coordinators before my semi-final fight. During this fight my opponent was having a nice chat to the referee throughout the whole fight without being penalised. The podium experience at the IBJJF Championships in the black belt division, by the way, is beyond underwhelming. At least I received my T-Shirt though 👍

It is astounding how so many people still collectively make an agreement that IBJJF tournaments are the most prestigious. It’s enabling behaviour that, in my opinion, takes advantage of the athletes and BJJ community. Where does it stop?”

This is Vanessa's position. There are athletes who are very comfortable with the IBJJF, who are happy to pay all the odds that the federation requires and find the IBJJF competitions  well organized.
